sad news..

one of my favorite artists since i was a kid has died -- Ernie Barnes, Jr. most people remember him for his paintings seen in the 1970s show, Good Times, especially the painting shown during the end credits called Sugar Shack. this piece in particular also doubled as an album cover for Marvin Gaye. seeing his paintings at an early age is how he quickly became an inspiration to me. later in life, i learned he had an interesting success story as well. if you'd like to check out some of his work, you can click his link under my inspirations column. it also has great info about him, which is where i turned to when writing reports on him for school. i'll definitely treasure my autographed Ernie Barnes book.

HOORAY for new jobs!!

well gang, i've been away for a little bit cuz i was working on gettin some things straight. and i'm pleased to announce the landing of a new gig! yes, it is true, i have joined the wonderful crew that is the SpongeBob SquarePants family at Nickelodeon! and boy, and i'm pleased as punch :0)

back in service!

ok, so after taking some time off to let my finger heal, i was able to get a quick piece done for the Sketch & Sniff drawing challenge. i'm sure you're probably wondering what i mean about my finger, and let me be the first to tell you (if you haven't heard already).. it tweren't perdy! i got my right index finger (yes, my drawing hand) slammed in a REEEALLY heavy door. definitely no fun. anyway, i'm back in commission now, so... LET'S GET IT GOIN!

tattoo design

here's a birthday gift i drew today for an old friend. she came to me for a tattoo design, so here's what i came up with. obviously, it still needs to be cleaned up a bit :0)

went to da ZOO yesterday!

so yesterday we went to the LA Zoo. i haven't been animal life drawing in a while, so i had to shake out some cobb webs! nonetheless, i came up we a few descent drawings i guess. the time flew by pretty quickly, so i'll have to go for a full day next time.

1-shot that shoulda happened LAST week

ok, so here's the 1-shot that i started last week that i didn't get to finish. now that i have finished though, it is here for your enjoyment. and i do hope you enoy it. the song i used this time is by a group called Sweetback. the song is called "Powder" from their 1996, self-titled album, Sweetback. Their cool, mellow sound gave me inspiration for this story, which i wouldn't mind turning into an animated short if i had the time. i think it'd be especially cool as a 3D piece. anyway, here it is:

WELP!! just as i promised, i'm going on three weeks strong with this new idea of setting up a story in a single shot. i hope you all are diggin these as much as i enjoy drawing them out for you. and i hope you like them enough to keep coming back to see my stuff.

anyway, the one i drew for this week is to a song from back in the late 90's when techno was really in. the song is called Busy Child by The Crystal Method. of course i've included the song for you to hear while you look at the drawing. the best way i like to look at it is by listening to the first part of the song until just after the intro. there's a part where EVERYthing kicks in at once and that's when you scroll down to look at the picture! give it a try...
