Christmas Print colored

WELP! here it is. right on time as i promised. hope it was worth the wait. thanks to everyone who expressed excitement and enthusiasm for me to actually get a piece of extraneous artwork done. i had a lot of fun with it (for obvious reasons). many of you found humor within the immediate content, and some of you where able to pull the additional level of humor. basically, this is a call to the line in Batman Begins. it's a pivotal point in Batman's character when he's getting the hang of mastering the art of instilling fear in criminal scum! (it's also a line that Noel and i used to make fun of quite a bit back in the day -- oh, Christian Bale... ::sigh::)

anyway, as i promised, i'm offering 25 signed prints of this guy for $20 each. if you'd like one, please email me. i have a feeling they'll go quickly because i've been posting about this on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, and some people have already been calling dibs. as always, i appreciate your support and enthusiasm.

happy holidays, sucka! and a very Gotham Christmas!

A Very Gotham Christmas 2011

WELP! here it is, fans of optik nourishment. this is the print i promised you all for Christmas 2011. this is the black & white version so you can see it all cleaned up before being colored. (some people like that part of the process.) i want to have the colored version done within the next day or two. in any case, consider this my Christmas present to you all since i've been M.I.A. for so long. my apologies. things have been quite hectic for me, as some of you know. nevertheless, i'm on the rebound and this is my first piece to prove it. hope ya'll dig it. unfortunately, i realized last night after finishing it that i seemed to have drawn this for myself -- whoopsie. in any case, i think i'm going to do 25 signed (color, 8x10) prints of this for anyone out there who digs this as much as i do. let me know if any of you are interested in this. i'll understand if you want to wait to see the colored version, so i'll be sure to annouce when it's done on Twitter, Google+ and Facebook. thanks for staying fans through my brief hiatus, dear friends! happy holidizzays and whatevs.

This is Halloween

so i don't use my blog very often for this kind of thing, but i feel pretty compelled to bring this to the attention of my friends.

as many of you know, i am definitely not an advocate of the 3-D movement. in general, it's a waste of money to see something in 3D at the movie theater. the only movie that i felt was truly worth anything in 3D was Coraline. in fact, i paid to see it twice in the theater! anyway, i say all that to say this: please don't waste $16 or more to go see Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D this holiday season. instead, what you SHOULD do is spend $20 to purchase it on Blu-ray!!

so last night i had the immense pleasure of watching one of my all-time favorite movies (probably top 10) on Blu-ray for the first time. DOOD. what an experience. keep in mind, this is a movie i've seen almost 100 times since it's release in 1993. and i still couldn't believe how many new things i noticed in this movie after watching it. and even though i'm always amazed by this movie every time i watch it, last night i was blown away by textures and colors happening that i never noticed before. it was truly an eye feast! anyway, i highly recommend checking it out if you haven't yet. for me, it was a much better investment then a gimmicky 3D experience.

oh, and Happy Halloweenie!

(wow, i haven't drawn Jack since coming to Nickelodeon!)

links!

well, the last few days have been interesting. a lot has finally settled down for me post-Comic Con. many of you probably feel the same way. it's been nice to not have to draw much since last Thursday, so i've been spending more time catching up in cyber space. for example, an interview i did for animationinsider.com was posted yesterday! that's pretty rad. you can read it here:

www.animationinsider.com/2011/07/kris-wimberly/

other than that, i fiiiinally got some boards up online. many people ask me why i don't have any up, and the short answer is that i didn't have a great way to show them. i personally hate reading storyboards online and having to click through them one page at a time just to enlarge it enough to read. it gets really old, really fast. i guess i just thought others felt the same. but recently, i was advised to check out carbonmade.com to see if i could use it to suit my needs. so far this seems to work better because there's an option to scroll through a board (at a reasonable size) like a flipbook, making it much easier to read. would you like to take a look at a couple board samples? you can see them here:

kriswboards.carbonmade.com

and last but not least, i'm on Google+ along with tons of other fantastic artists and friends and artistic friends. so if you're in the cyber neighborhood of Google+ and aren't tired of following me on Twitter (@optik2010), you can add me to one of your circles on there. i'll try my best to keep the content rich and as different as i can than my other postings so that you have a reason to keep in touch there.

but thank you all for having an interest in what i do. it's amazing to me to think that i can put lines on paper and it gets someone's brian juices percolating out there. i'll keep doing my best if you keep checking back. and let me know what excites you most so i can dish out more of it! thanks guys :0)

flower people

many of you have been wondering what all this freelance is that i've been up to lately. so i've decided to go ahead and post some of the stuff that i think you'd find interesting. one of the projects i've been working on are these character designs. it's been a pretty fun ride, i must admit. essentially, i'm creating flower-people with only two real restrictions: 1) generating a personalities based on the list of character names, and 2) making sure to use the five-pedaled flower a person normally thinks of when doodling flowers. that's it. everything else is up to me. so i have to create one for each of the 12 names on this list, but here are the first few. for protection purposes on the intellectual properties, i'm leaving off the names (..but probably all you really care about is if i can draw or not).

so what's great is that these characters were brought to life by the talented Ashley Stoddard. she did a fantastic job coloring these little guys and hopefully you'll be able to see the colored versions by clicking over to her blog once she uploads them.

hope you dig what we've done!

Death Zone

so here's a quick warm up i did before jumping into all the character designing i have to do today. last night i was suggested a music group to check out, and as we all know music and art go together like chocolate and peanut butter. here's what i sketched up real quick while listening. gotta say, i kinda dig this group called Apocalyptica.

here's an example of the music i was listening to while sketching this dood:

Eastwood

so i finally have a second to post the sketch i did for Father's Day. nothing too flashy, just a solid sketch of one of my dad's heroes, Clint Eastwood. i printed it out and put it in a frame, so it ended up lookin pretty sharp. he dug it lots.

warm.up.

it's been a little bit since i've posted anything. i've been super swamped with lots of work. but lots of work means lots of meals! so i like that part. anyway, speaking of work, i still have much to do today, but i figured i'd at least post my warm up to get things rolling. it's a pony with one antler.

twitter contest

a couple weeks ago, i held a little contest on Twitter. i promised the winner a hand-drawn sketch by me. there were some really fun submissions, but my favorite one was by @UkeableTweets (who also hosts a YoutTube channel), so this is the sketch i did:

W.I.P. - giraffes

so here's the beginning to a birthday gift. it's going to be a nice-sized wall print for a dear friend who LOVES giraffes. she's quite funny. in any case, i liked the sketch enough that i thought i'd share it before i cover it all up with digital paint. this is step #1 of this WIP ("work in progress" for those not familiar with the acronym):

friendly, neighborhood web-head

i think i developed a touch of vertigo while drawing this, but here it is nonetheless... hope you dig it:

(ps: this is the piece i will start the petition for my buddy,Big Toon to color... stay tuned for "1000 Signatures for Alex Deligiannis to Color This")

your stuff is here.

so the other morning i was watching SpongeBob because they'd aired an episode that i drew on but hadn't seen yet. if you follow me on Twitter, you probably remember mentioning how much the backgrounds were a pain in this particular episode because they played an integral part to the storyline and had to be treated as such. so, that meant i spent quite a bit of time planning and rendering out the backgrounds. here's an example:

the hero walk

a few hours ago i reeeally wanted to go home and watch Kick-Ass the major motion picture! alas, i was at work and could not leave for such petty reasons. so, i did the next best thing. put on some E.S. Posthumus and opened up Photoshop. here's what happened:

(here's some of what i was listening to while painting)

micro-doodle

here's the newest piece i did for Honky D's micro song entitled "Cro-Magnon Caterwaul". it's pretty powerful, but it isn't posted yet. may take a day or two. but check out the other ones on there!

Glass Joe

so here's a quick one i did of Glass Joe from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out! i like it enough to possibly do a series of the group, or maybe at least clean this one up and have someone super rad color it... i dunno.

original from the Nintendo game
(found it on Phred's Cool Punch-Out Page):

and of course, you need the music:
